Courage Not War:

A Conference for Grassroots Organizers

Working to Prevent War on Iraq

The Fellowship of Reconciliation (FOR) will be holding a gathering for 25-30 organizers from around the country to help build a strong, diverse anti-war movement. The gathering will include:

  • Sharing stories and experiences about anti-war organizing work -- What is working? What are the biggest obstacles? What do people need to be more effective? How can we better support each other in this work?
  • Strategizing how we can be more effective and work together. We hope to create a collective action plan to guide us in building a broad-based, diverse, interfaith anti-war movement.
  • Training in a variety of areas including nonviolence, media work, lobbying, and organizing.
  • Networking with local organizers to build a strong base of support. Participants will leave the weekend with a toolkit of resources to bring back to their communities.

When: Friday, January 10 - Monday, January 13, 2003

Where: Nyack, New York (FOR National office, about 1 hour north of New York City)

Cost: Free

Though contributions are appreciated, FOR will pay for expenses (including travel), if participants would like more elaborate lodging than a mattress in our building, overnight lodging at a nearby location can be arranged for a small cost.

Who: Inexperienced and experienced organizers who are committed to organizing in their communities around Iraq and are committed to the mission and vision of FOR. Representatives from FOR affiliated groups are especially encouraged to participate. Representatives from allied organizations are also invited to apply. We are looking for diversity in age, race, religion, geographic location, and experience. We will select participants to insure that we have a diverse and committed group.

How to Apply:

Download the application, and send it in by December 6. We will notify you by December 13.
