Hiroshima and Nagasaki Survivors at FOR

On Tuesday, May 3, 2005, the Fellowship of Reconciliation hosted An Evening with the Hibakusha – the survivors of the atomic bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki in August, 1945.

Three Hibakusha presented their personal stories, with Japanese-English translation provided by Mr. Hiro Sakurai, the United Nations representative from Sokka Gakkai International (the largest lay Buddhist organization in Japan and a leader in the global nuclear abolition movement.)

"The survivors of the Hiroshima and Nagasaki atomic bombings have suffered the most horrendous form of warfare in human history, and they have been a living witness for nuclear disarmament and world peace for 60 years," said Ibrahim Ramey, the coordinator of the FOR's disarmament program. "Their message to us is a clear and powerful one, and we must honor them while they are still with us".
