Resistance Unarmed: Photos of Colombian Peace Communities
Cacarica: Community of Self-Determination, Life and Dignity of the Cacarica River Basin - CAVIDA
"Daddy's Kiss"
Community women attended the birth of this child. The nearest medical services are six hours away by boat, a prohibitively expensive trip that must be arranged well in advance. At present, human rights groups provide weekly transportation in and out of the community.

"Waterway"
There are no roads into the Cacarica River Basin. Travel to remote settlements in the region requires a day's journey by boat. During the dry season, even small canoes must be dragged through the shallows.

"Movers"
For safety, villagers are moving their houses further away from the river. Illegal militias entered the Cacarica settlements in November of 2001, threatening community members and destroying their subsistence crop of rice.
