Stimulate peace!

President Bush has announced an "economic stimulus" plan that will generate $600 checks for many Americans. While the President may hope that we will invest this cash in short-term consumer purchases, many people of conscience have a better idea.

You can turn the government's money into work for a more peaceful world. Click here to pledge to donate your rebate to FOR.

April 26-28: Days of Prayer & Action for Colombia

Join FOR and thousands of people of faith in North America and Colombia as we pray for an end to the violence and suffering in Colombia, and act for an end to unjust U.S. policies in Colombia. On the weekend of April 26-27, congregations across the country will stand in solidarity with our Colombian brothers and sisters who have endured so much suffering, remembering the victims of Colombia's brutal conflict and praying for a peaceful future in Colombia.

Then on Monday, April 28, we will take collective action to ask that U.S. policy promote peace and justice in Colombia rather than military involvement and violence. For more information, please contact: Liza Smith, FOR Colombia program national organizer, by e-mail or phone (510-763-1403), or visit the Days of Prayer and Action web site.

People of faith come together against the war

The Fellowship of Reconciliation is helping coordinate the Olive Branch Interfaith Peace Partnership, which held a national day of action in Washington, DC on Friday, March 7th to end the war in Iraq and Afghanistan. We ask you to help us press Congress and the White House to take concrete steps to end the war. Four thousand U.S. soldiers have died in Iraq, as well as countless Iraqis, and the time has come for immediate change in a failed policy.

FOR Staff and Leaders Are Blogging: Join Us

Visit FORpeace.net -- FOR's blog -- for daily information about peace & justice activism. In recent weeks, FOR leaders have written about and raised up such issues as:

  • The 40th anniversary of Dr. Martin Luther King's death and his legacy today;
  • the crackdown on human rights in Tibet;
  • organizing to end the war in Iraq;
  • Iranian bicyclists visiting the U.S. to promote peace and environmental conservation;
  • the continuing aftermath of Hurricane Katrina on New Orleans, and the neglect of its people; and
  • working to end military recruitment of our youth in local communities.

Each workday we are profiling campaigns you can join to support human rights and peacemaking throughout the world. Please join our community online at our new Blog -- be part of the conversation!
