Yuval Ron is an international composer and
record producer. He has done field recordings
in the Sinai desert with the Bedouins and
produced the record One Truth – “a
window into the divine passion and poetry
of Sufism” with the Sufi master musician
Omar Faruk Tekbilek. In 2003 he released
the album One – “a desert
voyage to the experience of oneness featuring
the celebrated Israeli musician, Yair Dalal,
Persian singer, Azam Ali, and the Moroccan
voice of Haim Louk.
Dedicated to fostering understanding of Middle
Eastern cultures and religions, Yuval’s
latest CD entitled Under the Olive Tree unites
together the sacred musical traditions of
Judaism, Sufism (Islamic mystical tradition)
and the Christian Armenian Church. The music
imparts the ancient and deep inter-cultural
connection between these three traditions
and the musical influences they share with
sounds originating from Turkey, Morocco, Israel,
Iran, Armenia, and Yemen. A recipient of
multiple grants from the National Endowment
of the Arts, the Rockefeller Foundation, the
American Composers Forum and the California
Council for the Humanities, Yuval has worked
with the Moscow Symphony, the LAJS Symphony,
and the New Hampshire Philharmonic.
In a review, History professor Dr. Mark LeVine
wrote: “the audience was clearly mesmerized
by the combination of cultures and styles
that were blended together in the show, and
saw the unity of the various Mediterranean
peoples in the band as a symbol of what seems
could be achieved on a much larger scale if
only the love behind the music could penetrate
the larger cultures."
He is the producer and host of the world
music concert series “The International
Underground” world music concert series
at the UCLA Hammer Museum and a graduate of
the Berklee College of Music, Cum-Laude. |
